If you aren't familiar with the Domino Project you should be.
This venture is the brainchild of uber-marketer Seth Godin, and it's one that is gathering momentum just like a tumbling row of dominoes.
Godin has partnered with Amazon to change the way ideas are spread. This is less about digital media and more about exploring new ways of sharing ideas to make a difference.
Poke the Box by Seth Godin
Since the project began, I have downloaded Godin's Poke the Box on Kindle for a single dollar. The idea behind this particular project was to get the price of the Kindle book as low as possible, thereby overcoming any resistance to spreading the book's message to the largest possible audience.
This was accomplished by getting as many people as possible to commit in advance to buying – and of course making good on our word, regardless of the ultimate price. I said yes, which was taking a very small risk given Godin's reputation for authoring bestsellers
The Kindle Version of Poke the Box is now $7.99. Everyone kept their promise on that first project, including Seth. He said the price would be higher for those not willing to step forward and take a small chance.
Do the Work by Steven Pressfield
The second project created Do the Work, which was released today – and it's free on Kindle to anyone for a month, thanks to a sponsorship by GE.
The author of Do the Work is Steven Pressfield. Pressfield wrote the timeless War of Art and many other titles, including The Legend of Bagger Vance, which you may recall was made into a major motion picture.
If you haven't read the War of Art, I highly recommend it. The War of Art is funny, poignant, and incredibly valuable to anyone that has been challenged with those inner demons that get in the way of you delivering your art to the world.
Do the Work is the sequel to the War of Art. I just downloaded it today and after reading just the first 20 pages it transformed my day – giving me the kick in the pants that I needed to stop sabotaging my own efforts and just do the work!
I've shared this opportunity with my children in college. And now I'm doing so with you. Hurry, because after May 20th the price goes up. Here's the link to your free Kindle version of Do the Work.
Incidentally, if you don't own a Kindle but own a Mac, there is a free Kindle app. You can get that at Amazon. There's also a free Kindle app for the iPhone available on iTunes.
