Thank You Small Business Readers

Yesterday I received some very fine news that I feel compelled to share, for one thing, because there is a story behind it that can help your small business.

Small Business Bloggers

Justin from Technorati sent me an email with a request to get back to him, and we had a preliminary discussion today. Technorati is an Internet search engine that tracks over 100 million blogs, and even more pieces of social media data. The email commented on the opportunity for working together due to the fact that this blog – JeffKorhan.com, is one of the top small business blogs in the blogosphere according to Technorati.

So, I wandered on over to Technorati to take a look for myself.  Not only is JeffKorhan.com presently ranked in the Technorati list of Top 100 Small Business blogs, but it's inching towards the much larger Business Top 100 category, where heavyweights such as Mashable and Huffington Post claim the top spots.  That may take a few more years, but that's OK – I'm all in.

I honestly had no idea!

How did this happen?  When I started blogging in late 2006, I simply found the idea of being able to freely share my insights and perspectives on small business matters to be empowering. I wasn't concerned with who was reading, although I hoped a few readers would show up from time to time.

And you did.  Thank you so much for that.  I cannot tell you how much that is appreciated by any blogger – to know that your ideas are resonating with your chosen audience.

How Did This Happen?

To be honest, I just did it – and I kept doing it.  I answered every single comment.  And I learned a great deal along the way from readers like you that helped to make this blog more practical, useful, and occasionally, even a little bit entertaining.

Most importantly, I have enjoyed everything about it.  I've enjoyed the thrill of solving the technology challenges, and among other things, learning new copywriting skills.  And I've made new friends around the world.

My thrill and excitement for blogging is just as strong today as it was four years ago.  In fact, it just keeps getting better.

All of this gets me wondering why there aren't more industry leaders taking advantage of this opportunity to become one of the go-to sources of expertise in your industry.  When I am speaking to audiences in a range of small business industries, I am still surprised to discover there are barely a handful of bloggers.

This tells me we have just scratched the surface of what's possible for helping the thousands of seasoned and aspiring entrepreneurs with their small businesses.

And that is exactly what motivates me to do this.

That's why I blog.  Because I can.
