Blogging is the most powerful marketing tool available to any business marketer today – without exception.  It is the great equalizer.  Whatever you do well, it amplifies it.   And unlike your other social media networks, you own the content you create.  That is why it is also your legacy.

You Can Run, But You Cannot Hide

You many have 100,000 followers on Twitter, or a Facebook Fan Page that is electrified with endless conversations.  But that is all transient. The time comes when your prospects want to know the substance that makes your business worthy of their investment.  Your blog is that proof.

When I am out speaking to entrepreneurs, I find many of them are operating very successful businesses.  They are the real deal.  Though many have yet to build an online legacy that illuminates their truth.

Here are my recommendations for building or refining your blog to make it a legacy that matches your business accomplishments.

Make it Simple

Words are powerful.  Images and videos are even more powerful.  Be discerning.   Choose your words carefully.  Keep your videos short.  And use images that capture the essence of your message.  Distill your message down to what will make a difference in the lives of the people in your target market.

Make it Strong

Marketing in all of its forms is about influence.  If your message lacks authority, than so do you – and by inference, so does the business you represent.  When you are blogging, you are standing on a mountaintop. Now say what you have to say as if you had the undivided attention of thousands of people.  Do it well, and someday you will.

Make it Social

Business is no longer about companies.  It is about people.  We are living in a world where superior quality and value are expected.  The differentiating factor is the opportunity to work with someone we can trust.  HOW you convey your message is even more important than the message itself. Make an emotional connection and you will be remembered forever.

Be strong.  Keep it simple.  And use the power of this social media platform.

A great blog is the marketer's marketer.

I agree, Twitter has become the land of white noise. everybody’s talking but no body is listening and most of the talking is mindless RT’s with no information. Blogs are content and content is your legacy online.

Sam – Twitter lists are helping me monitor my communities, but evidently that is just working on this – the listening end.

I’m staying involved with Twitter only enough to respond. If my blog is where I’m getting results, then that is where my focus will be.:)
